Leonard BARSTOW was born on the 18th June 1897 in Sheffield. The 1901 census shows him aged 4yrs living at 22 Steward Road, Ecclesall, Sheffield with his parents Frank and Elizabeth as well as his older brother Frank.

In 1911 the family are at 39 Pearl Street, Ecclesall, Sheffield and Leonard is described as being employed as a Field Cutler.

Unfortunately Leonards WW1 service papers have not survived but from his medal index card he can be seen to have entered France on the 13th July 1915.

The award of the Military Medal appears in the London Gazette on the 17th December 1917.

Leonard passed away in Sheffield in 1984.
