200222 Sjt Joseph Reginald MARSH 1/4th York and Lancaster Regiment
Joseph Reginald MARSH was born at Sculcoates, Hull in 1892. He can be traced in the 1901 census record living with his parents Joseph Henry and Annie Gertrude MARSH at Ashton Under Lyme but by 1911 the family are registered at 1 Swaledale Road, Sheffield.
1 Swaledale Road
Joseph first enlists into the 4th Territorial Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment on the 13th March 1913, at this time he is allotted service number 1635. On the 5th August 1914 he is embodied and later renumbered 200222 and finds himself in the 1/4th Battalion.
He travelled with the battalion to France on the 13th April 1915 and becomes a Sergeant.
His WW1 papers portray a fairly unremarkable service but I am sure this is far from the case.
