John Harold BAYLEY was born at Attercliffe in 1883. The son of Harold and Jane BAYLEY we can trace him in the census record as follows:-
1891 – 89 Industry Road, Darnall, Sheffield – Scholar. Address o longer exists.
1901 – 83 Industry Road, Darnall, Sheffield – Electrical Engineer.
1911 – Lodger at Braithwell, Rotherham – Electrical Engineer.
John attested with the Cameron Highlanders aged 31 years at Glasgow on the 18th November 1914. His military service cannot be determined other than he entered France on the 8th July 1915 and at some stage he transferred to the Royal Engineers Inland Waterways Department and served with regimental numbers WR323061 and 293682.
83 Industry Road, Darnall, Sheffield
He is commemorated on the Darnall Liberal Club WW1 memorial of those who served.
No death record can be found for John. There is a record of a John BAYLEY emigrating to the U.S. in 1920, not confirmed but most likely.
The grave of his parents lies in the Tinsley Park Cemetery, Darnall, Sheffield.
